Avene's Rich History
It all began in 1736, when Marquis de Rocozel’s horse was suffering from stubborn pruritus (a type of skin condition) and was healed after a few swims in the soothing waters of a spring in the Orb River. Soon, patients suffering from skin conditions started to arrive at the spring and it was declared to be of “public interest” by the French government.
In 1990, Avene Hydrotherapy Centre was established and was further expanded in 2004. The center is equipped with the latest equipment, and programmes are conducted under strict control. People come from all over the world to enjoy the calming and soothing water from the spring. Hydrotherapy takes place daily under dermatological control. In addition to hydroptherapy, the Center has developed educational and information programmes to assist people in understanding their skin better, allowing them to keep their skin healthy after they leave.
Avene Thermal Spring Water
Avene Thermal Spring Water begins its journey when it falls as rain over the Cevennes Mountains, filtering down through the soil and rocks for over 40 years before bubbling up, pure and clear, to the surface at the Sainte-Odile spring. The water is directed straight from the source to the production plant through pipes, where products are manufactured. Avene Thermal Spring Water is naturally soothing, anti-irritating and is rich in components particularly recommended for the most sensitive skin.
- Low mineral composition 266 mg/l
- Calcium/Magnesium bicarbonate profile (ratio Ca/Mg = 2).
- Rich in silica: 10.6 mg/l.
- Very rich in trace elements.
- Neutral pH: 7.5.
Over 30 years of research has been conducted on the water by the Avene Dermatological Laboratories, as well as numerous pharmacological and clinical studies. In 2001, our scientific researched identified a microflora called Aqua Dolomiae which comes from deep within the earth and produces the active substances found in the Avene Thermale Spring Water that gives it its significant anti-itch, anti-inflammatory properties, helping to stimulate the skin’s natural protection. This microflora is, and always will be, unique to Avene Thermal Spring Water because it does not exist anywhere else.
The soothing and calming properties of Avene Thermale Spring Water are internationally recognised and extremely popular. With use, skin becomes less sensitive, balanced and is better equipped to fight external aggressors.
